James C. Huhta, MD, FACC

Perinatal Cardiology
Affiliate Professor Pediatrics, USF

Dr. Huhta attended college and medical school at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. After completing his pediatric residency at the University of Alabama, he attended the Mayo Clinic where he completed a pediatric cardiology fellowship. He proceeded to London, England where he was a senior registrar at the Hospital for Sick Children. He began his career in pediatric cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he published numerous works in the field of pediatric echocardiography. After only six years at Baylor, he was recruited by the University of Pennsylvania as Professor of Pediatrics and became Chief of Pediatric Cardiology Services at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. While in Philadelphia, he also began the section of perinatal cardiology at Pennsylvania Hospital, our nation's first hospital.

In 1996, Dr. Huhta and his wife came to Tampa Bay where he is currently a clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Florida School of Medicine and Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology at All Children's and Tampa Children's Hospitals. Dr. Huhta has been instrumental in developing PCA's fetal and perinatal cardiology program. This program detects congenital heart disease, collaborates with obstetricians in the evaluation of fetal health, and anticipates the baby's needs once it is born.
